I found it laying around. It’s a 2950 Hz tone, picked out of the background of one of my voice memos, from two Novembers ago. That fall and winter you could hear this tone for blocks. I think it was from a faulty light fixture, or a faulty deterrent device. The colder it got, the louder it became—November 11, 2015 must’ve been a particularly cold night.
I cleaned it up the best I could, probably, it’s been a minute. I filtered out noise, and some inane poem about something I’m sure meant something, I’m sure. If you crank it you can still hear hints of it. Not worth the trouble , and besides the point.
The point here is, this is the tone that settled over my hood for a spell. It’s approximately 2950 Hz.
Yeah, ok, if I keep putting out these small, non-drone-y, items, I may have to create a new feed for them. But, I don’t produce a lot of content, and it may be fun to have random small things appear, little rocks in the stream.
And…I did it before, these little stepping stones between realities, I called them microcasts…but I had some weird rule that they had to be under, I don’t know, some absurdly small number of seconds, a handful. And one of them, an enhanced podcast, went nuts.
Oh, that was the other thing, microcasts were all going to be enhanced, but there’s a couple weird edge cases where a very short enhanced podcast with a bunch of hires graphics and chapters goes nuts with some podcast directories and aggregators.
Then Apple effectively doomed the format by removing the functionality from GarageBand. Probably for the better, if you’re going to do an enhanced podcast you might as well do a video. Which is what I’ve started doing…I’m getting better.
You know, I have no idea what to call the artifacts of my work…oh, geez, pretentious much?
I have no idea what to call the audio I make. The genre it best marches is Drone…and even though it’s been around since the mid-twentieth century, few know of it.
And Drone has too many meanings
Radio controlled toys and flying death machines
Low ranked or oblivious worker
A musical form that played with note lengths and timing
An digital music genre that shapes overlapping waves
The sound of existence
Drone is the sound of the fabric of reality stretching to accommodate existence
It’s the self creating scofffold straining under the weight of being
For Pete’s Sake! my iTunes store listing is broken again. The podcast feed is working correctly. I think Apple has a cacheing issue going on. Everything is good on my end—I’ve checked and rechecked over a course of weeks. I followed all the advice Apple Support sent me, and at for a brief moment it started working again and displayed the most up to date list, but it suddenly reverted. If you subscribe in iTunes you’ll still be able to pull down the most recent episodes even though they’re not listed in iTS.
I think I finally have my iTunes store podcast listing straightened out. Something about not having PowerPress display the media player and download links in my posts and having a YouTube embed instead. Once I allowed the media player to display the iTunes store listing refreshed with my latest episodes.
It shouldn’t work that way, no other directory had a problem. But…what works, works, I guess. Sadly I know have both the PowerPress player and the YouTube player in my podcast posts. I’m trying to figure out what to do about that. I’ll be leaving it for the time being, and maybe, hopefully, I’ll get it sorted out one of these days. For now I’m just thankful the listing has finally updated.
