The beginning and the end are worn.
Virtual instruments controlled by samples.
A G-man posing as a number station.
A preachy New Year’s reveler.
Ice calving from an iceberg.
A hammer strike.

You know, I have no idea what to call the artifacts of my work…oh, geez, pretentious much?
I have no idea what to call the audio I make. The genre it best marches is Drone…and even though it’s been around since the mid-twentieth century, few know of it.
And Drone has too many meanings
Radio controlled toys and flying death machines
Low ranked or oblivious worker
A musical form that played with note lengths and timing
An digital music genre that shapes overlapping waves
The sound of existence
Drone is the sound of the fabric of reality stretching to accommodate existence
It’s the self creating scofffold straining under the weight of being
That’s how I use the word Drone

Video: ffmpeg, with heavy postprocessing in ShotCut and iMovie
Titles: inkscape, and no I’m not satisfied with them. I just had to stop, I had to stop. So I stopped with the promise that my next video will have better title/credit cards.

I put together a Dronecast video compilation, featuring a simple vid for each episode. Took a week to make, three days to upload, and six days for the servers to crunch. Aargh, it was pretty torturous.
It was made using freely available software on a dinky laptop. I’m happy with it.
UPDATE: I just made a YouTube playlist for those that have trouble either the Internet Archive player.
Franklyn Monk Dronecast 28: Outtakes.
Just some scraps I had laying around. I record as I write and delete everything up to the final recording—to save disk space, and because there’s always too much to review.
Recordings get scattered all over the place, and I’ll loose track of them, and sometimes stumble over them again. Instead of deleting them this time, I decided to give you a behind the scenes look at my writing process. Continue reading Outtakes
Once upon a time in a desolate land
In the middle of a
You’d recognize it
It’s right over there
Stood a tree.
Under the tree sat a poet.
It was the last tree and the last poet.
Fitting they should die together
Thought the poet.
Fitting, thought the tree,
No more useless than
Love thought the poet.
And the tree dropped a leaf.
We shall die,
We shall die together
We shall die,
We shall die together
And they did.
The tree lost its branches
and the poet decomposed.
They’re still there
A dead testament to waste
For whoever should wander by
The commentator shakes
Its head and says
What I mean to say
Once upon a time
In a desolate land
The last poet
And the last tree
So that you may
Stare in despair and regret
What you have done
Look at what you have wrought
Look at what you wrought.
